When 'I have a headache' could be life-threatening

Updated: Jun 14, 2018

My son's vocalization of sudden, continual and painful headaches (and our listening and taking action) possibly saved his life.

A couple weeks in June, 2015 were perhaps the most difficult of my life. I want to tell all parents to LISTEN to their kids-- especially when they say something is wrong. My son's vocalization of sudden, continual and painful headaches (and our listening and taking action) possibly saved his life. LONG story short, we found out last week that he had a bleed on his brain. He was immediately rushed to our nearby ER and PICU and after a few days and lots of CTs and MRIs they sent him home. Steph and I felt uneasy and scared because no cause was found and nothing was done to subside the bleed. We made an appointment with Stanford for a second opinion and within moments of walking into the neurosurgeon he said Caiden needed surgery urgently and that any additional trauma to his head could potentially cost Caiden his life. So, here we are, a little over a day post-surgery, and our beautiful, amazing little boy is alert, playing, eating & HEADACHE-FREE. He's also sans his gorgeous curly hair but sporting a stylish and comfortable summertime mohawk... Anyhow, we still have a road to go with Caiden's healing but for the first time in a long time we're on the right track. Moms and Dads-- listen to your kids; listen to your gut... I thank God I did!!
